Golden Jubilee Celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College concluded

The Golden Jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College concluded here today with calls for upgrading the college to the next level as a centre of Commerce University. These calls were made in the open session which was held today at the main venue of the golden jubilee function. Chaired by the president of the organizing committee Dr Mukunda Rajbangshi, the session was attended by Dr. Ramesh Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University as the chief guest. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Kalyan Hazarika of Tezpur University, Dr. Anil Saikia, ex-Principal of Moran College, ex-Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College Dr Hemanta Kumar Baruwa, ex-Vice Principal of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Dr. Amiya Rajbangshi and president of the governing body of the college Dr Muhidhar Puzari. Three books, by Dr Arupa Dutta, Asst. Professor in Education, Kuldip Narayan Dutta, Asst. Professor in Political Science and Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal and edited by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal, Dr. Dadul Rajknowar, Coordinator, IQAC and Dr. Harni Patowari Das, Asst. Professor in English were inaugurated in the open session of the golden jubilee.

In the night a Bhaona, Kuru Sandhya was staged by the teachers, non-teaching staff, students and alumni were staged. This was followed by a cultural nite.

Earlier on the concluding day the programme began with the taking out of a cultural procession by the college which was inaugurated by Anand Mishra, Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur and was attended by students of all the departments, PG classes, distance educations students, alumni, teachers, non-teaching staff, retired teachers and office staff as well as the neighbours of the college.

The first day of the three day extravaganza began toda on November 2 with the inauguration of the main gate of the Golden Jubilee celebration, by Dr. Kiran Hazarika, Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU-New Delhi. This was followed by the hoisting of the flag by Dr. Mukunda Rajbangshi, president of the Golden Jubilee Organizing committee along with the hoisting of the fifty flags by fifty eminent persons to mark the fifty years of the college. The other dignitaries that hoisted the flag included Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Dr. Rajkumar Rajendra Singh, Assam Education minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, Professor in Practice, Dibrugarh University Diganta Biswa Sarma.

This was followed by the tribute paying ceremony led by Vice Principal Gopal Kumar Chetry.

A national symposium on Higher Education in the Light of New Education Policy was held on the opening day of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College. The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Govt. of Assam and chief patron of the Golden Jubilee celebration committee of Lakhimpur Commerce College. Chaired by Dr. Mukunda Rajbangshi, the symposium was attended by Dr. Rajkumar Rajendra Singh, Education Advisor to Assam Government Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta, Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, Professor in Practice, Dibrugarh University Diganta Biswa Sarma, Vice Chancellor Majuli Cultural University Dr Nirode Kumar Baruah, Vice Chancellor of Assam of Science and Technology University Dr. Narendra S, Chaudhary, Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU-New Delhi Dr Kiran Hazarika, President of All India Principal’s Council Dr. Sanjay Vakil, Secretary of Assam State Principal’s Council Dr. Ranjan Kalita, Secretary of Assam College Teachers Association Dr. Jayanta Baruah and Dr Anil Saikia, ex-Principal, Moran College. The souvenir of the golden jubilee was released by Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta on that occasion.

In the afternoon another symposium on Higher Education Institute and NEP-2020 was organized for that occasion. The seminar was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Vakil, President of All India Principal’s Council. The first day’s programme concluded with a cultural nite by artist Mahendra Hazarika.

On the second day of the golden jubilee celebration was marked by various functions organized by the Alumni Association of the college. It with a Diha Naam, performed by the non-teaching staff of the college. This was followed by the Guru Pujan of all the retired teachers and current teaching staff of the college by the Lakhimpur Commerce College Alumni Association. A meeting was organized on that occasion which was chaired by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal Subashita Jeevan, a biographical account of all retired teachers of the college, edited by Runjun Baruah, the college librarian and Mridushmita Hazarika, Asstt. Professor, Assamese was also inaugurated on that occasion.

In the evening a cultural programme was organized where national award winning vocalist and musician Tarali Sarma performed.
