World Water Day observed at Lakhimpur Commerce College

World Water Day was observed at Lakhimpur Commerce College with calls for saving water to its last drop. A meeting was organized for that occasion by the Eco Club of the college which was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Lohit Hazarika. In his inaugural address, Principal Dr. Hazarika spoke about the significance of the day and elaborated with this year’s theme accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis. He said that the reserve of water in the planet is fast receding and the crisis had already been affecting many parts of the world including urban areas of India. He asked the students to be aware enough in conserving water with optimum use and work towards changing the sanitation issues faced by the society.

A short film on water conservation by school children Tapak Tapak was screened by the Eco Club of the college in that programme. A quiz competition on water issues was also organized for the students on that occasion. The quiz competition was conducted by Prof. Pankaj Lochan Das and Prof. Deep Jaan Gohain. The programme was also attended by Vice Principal Gopal Kumar Chetry, faculty members Dr Arupa Dutta, Dr. Rupjyoti Bhattacharjee, Dr. Harini Patowary Das, Kuldeep Narayan Dutta and Prasanta Borah. The function ended with vote of thanks by Tarun Kumari, coordinator, Eco Club of Lakhimpur Commerce College.
