DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE
1. HISTORY:
A brief History of the Department of Banking:
Lakhimpur Commerce College was established on 4th September 1972 with the objectives of imparting Commerce education to aspiring students of all sections of the society. The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Assam. Same day i.e. on 4th September 1972 the college has initiated Banking subject in pre-university level. In year 1975 two year B.Com Degree course was started with Banking as one of the Major department with Honours in banking. Initially Prof. Robin Bordoloi has joined in the department as Head of the department in the year 1975. Accordingly Prof. Naren Sarma has joined in the department as Lecturer in the year 1979. In the year 1987 Prof. Pulin Rajbanshi has joined as lecturer, in the year 1991 Prof. Mahesh Chandra Bhagawati has joined as one of Lecturer of the department against Prof. Pulin Rajbanshi who has resigned from the post in the year 1991.
Now the department is running with good academic results of the College in both Higher Secondary Commerce and three year semester degree course with Banking Honours and pass course papers. Prof. Mahesh Chandra Bhagawati is now Head of the department of banking after retirement of Prof. Robin Bordoloi in the year 2011, Prof. Biswa Chintey Assistant Professor (Non- Sanction) and Prof. Bohnisikha Bordoloi Assistant Professor of Statistics is one of the guest Lecturer of the department.

3. OBJECTIVE:
a. The main objective of the department is to provide an opportunity to the student community to study Banking & Insurance as a discipline in Major and General Courses at degree level under Dibrugarh University syllabus.
b. To motivate and generate social consciousness among the students of the college in general and of the department in particulars.
4. MISSION:
The mission of the department is to build the students up as responsible citizen with adequate knowledge of their right duties, and codes of social life who can contribute to the process of making a healthy, developed and integrated society in modernized and globalized societies. It is a noble Endeavour of the department to encourage the students to inculcate social values, to strive to uphold the ideas of social construction and to serve the community around and the nation at large at the best of their abilities.
