IT and Computer Application department of Lakhimpur Commerce College was started in the year 1995 to impart skill and knowledge of using computer among the students. The subject was introduced as a vocational course from 1995 to the year 2000. During this time Ms Rupshree Bhuyan was appointed as the faculty in the department. In 2001, the Principal of the college, Dr. Hemanta Baruah started   DOEACC  O/A level course of Computer Science  under Dibrugarh University after getting due permission. From 2002 to 2005 the department was functioning in collaboration with Aptech, North Lakhimpur. Mr. Prasanta Borah joined the department on 23/08/2010 and has been rendering his service in the college since then. At present the department teaches the papers of computer science and IT in the Higher Secondary and UG level as well as runs a six months Certificate Course of Computer Application for the students of the college. From time to time the college gives contractual appointments in the department to facilitate a healthy teacher -student ratio. At present two part- time teachers namely Ms. Tolumoni Dutta and Ms. Upasona Bhuyan are providing their service. Apart from teaching the students, the department is also actively engaged in administrative works and also engaged in improving the ICT facilities of the college and conducts orientation programmes for the faculties to improve their skill of using modern teaching methods.
