An awareness programme on use of tobacco and its relation with cancer held on 26-08-2022 at Lakhimpur Commerce College. Dr Ankita Ghosh, dentist of Lakhimpur Cancer Care Hospital said that “Fifty percent of cancers are caused by tobacco and it also causes 90% of oral cancer", in an awareness meet held in Lakhimpur Commerce College, North Lakhimpur. The awareness meet titled "Use of Tobacco and its role in Cancer '' was organized by the Anti-Narcotics and Drugs Cell, Women Cell and NSS unit of the college in association with Assam Cancer Care Foundation, North Lakhimpur. The awareness meet was chaired by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College. The objective of the meeting was explained by Dr. Manjumani Saikia, coordinator, Women Cell of the college. Dr Ankita Ghosh and Sanjeev Kumar Baitha from Assam Cancer Foundation attended the awareness meet as resource persons. Delivering on that occasion Dr. Ghosh said that the awareness campaign was launched nationwide in order to turn all campuses of academic institutions into tobacco free. The staff nurse of Lakhimpur Cancer Care Hospital also attended the meet as a resource person. She delivered a presentation on breast and cervical cancer in the meeting.
